South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - DJ Kennedy nailed a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to lift the St. John's Red Storm over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a 69-68 final in a Big East Conference thriller.

Dwight Hardy posted 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range for St. John's (14-10, 4-8 Big East). The Red Storm got 12 points apiece from Kennedy, Anthony Mason Jr. and Justin Burrell.

Tim Abromaitis poured in 24 points in the loss for Notre Dame (17-9, 6-7), which was forced to play without star forward Luke Harangody because of a leg injury. Ben Hansbrough pitched in 13 points for the Fighting Irish.

St. John's connected on 53.6 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, including 7-of-11 from three-point range, en route to a 37-34 lead at intermission.

Both teams scored 11 points from the foul line in a second half that was fairly close from start to finish.

The Red Storm earned a 32-7 advantage in bench points, key to the victory.
