Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Derek Williams posted a game-high 20 points to lead the SMU Mustangs to a 67-57 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference- USA bout at Moody Coliseum.

Mouhammad Faye added 15 points in the win for SMU (12-13, 5-6 C-USA), while Robert Nyakundi tallied 11 points. Papa Dia got into the mix as well for the Mustangs, finishing with 10 points go with seven boards.

Lucas Kuipers scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the way for Rice (8-17, 1-10), while Connor Frizzelle and Trey Stanton notched 16 and 13 points, respectively.

The Owls buried 50.0 percent of their attempts from the field during the opening period of play, but went into the break trailing SMU by a 34-31 margin.

In the second half, the Mustangs shot at a 50.0 percent clip en route to the 10-point win.
