Cedar Falls, IA (Sports Network) - Ali Farokhmanesh scored all of his game- high 23 points in the second half, as the Northern Iowa Panthers downed the Old Dominion Monarchs, 71-62, in a BracketBuster event at the McLeod Center.
Farokhmanesh went 5-of-9 from long distance and 6-of-6 at the foul line, as UNI (24-3) stretched its home winning streak to 14 games. Kwadzo Ahelegbe also got into the mix for the Panthers, notching 10 points and five assists.
The Monarchs (21-8) were paced by Gerald Lee, who tallied 19 points on 6-of-11 field goals. Kent Bazemore chipped in with 13 points, as ODU had its three- game winning streak snapped.
The Panthers shot 48.1 percent from the floor in the opening half and brought a 31-22 lead to the break.
UNI went 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and 15-of-19 at the charity line in the second half, as it recorded the nine-point victory.
The Panthers hit on 10-of-22 shots from downtown and 17-of-21 at the foul line on the night, while ODU connected on just 6-of-19 long-range attempts and 10- of-13 free throws.
