Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Trey Montgomery scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Samford BBulldogs to a 60-54 win over the Chattanooga Mocs in a Southern Conference showdown at Pete Hanna Arena.

Jeffrey Merritt also added 18 points and nine rebounds for Samford (11-16, 5-10 SoCon), while Josh Davis chipped in with 16 points in the win.

The Mocs (13-15, 5-10) were paced by Ricky Taylor, who scored 11 points in a losing effort. Sam Watson made his presence felt in the paint, grabbing 11 rebounds for Chattanooga.

The Mocs took control of the game in the first half, shooting 44.4 percent from the field, to take a 28-24 lead at the break.

Samford stormed back in the second stanza, knocking down 6-of-13 three-point attempts, en route to a six-point victory.

Foul shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as Samford outscored the Mocs 13-2 from the charity stripe.
