Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - The George Mason Patriots fell just short as the College of Charleston Cougars went on to an 85-83 victory in a BracketBusters event at the Patriot Center.

Tony White Jr. scored a game-high 25 points for the College of Charleston (19-9) in the win. Jeremy Simmons recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Andrew Goudelock added 15 points.

Johnny Williams led George Mason (16-12) with 18 points in the loss. Ryan Pearson and Kevin Foster scored 13 points apiece, while Sherrod Wright added 12. Cam Long and Luke Hancock both provided healthy efforts as each netted 10 points.

The Patriots held a 43-40 advantage heading into the intermission after connecting on 56.3 percent of their field goals in the opening half.

The Cougars shot 46.9 percent in the second half, including six three- pointers, as they went on to the exciting victory.

Pearson hit what appeared to be the tying bucket with time expiring, however he was called for a charge on the play, negating the basket and leaving the Patriots with the narrow loss.

George Mason's reserves almost helped complete the comeback, as its bench outscored the Cougars 40-13 on the night.
