Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Brock Young scored 27 points to lead the East Carolina Pirates to a 76-65 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference-USA bout at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Jontae Sherrod added 15 points for ECU (9-17, 3-9 C-USA), while Jamar Abrams posted 13 points in the win.

Tamir Jackson netted 22 points for Rice (8-18, 1-11), while Lucas Kuipers tallied 14 points in the loss.

Despite shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor in the first half the Pirates went into the break with a 30-24 lead.

East Carolina picked up the pace in the second stanza by shooting a staggering 60.0 percent from the floor, en route to the 11-point win.

The Pirates were solid defensively, as they held Rice to a meager 37.3 percent shooting effort in the contest.
