Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Kevin Anderson posted 24 points, seven assists and five rebounds and took over down the stretch, guiding No. 25 Richmond to a hard-fought 74-70 win over George Washington at the Robins Center.

Ryan Butler scored 17 points, while Justin Harper and David Gonzalvez each chipped in 10 for the Spiders (22-6, 11-2 A-10), who have won eight straight. Kevin Smith had 11 points and four steals in the win.

Richmond's two wins this week mark the first time the program has won back-to- back games as a ranked team.

Lasan Kromah netted 25 points to go with eight rebounds for the Colonials (14-11, 4-8), who had a brief two-game winning streak broken. Tony Taylor donated 14 points and seven helpers in the loss.

With 1:21 left in regulation, Richmond broke a 68-all tie on a fadeaway from Anderson, who was then called for a charge after Butler swatted away Taylor's attempt to tie.

After a Taylor giveaway, Anderson made two at the stripe with just under a minute showing. Taylor got a jumper to fall, but a Smith dunk off an Anderson dish made it a four-point game again with 30 seconds left.

A missed three from Taylor at the other end foiled George Washington's upset bid.

Richmond, despite making a mere 25.9 percent from the field in the first half, led 29-28 at the break thanks to hitting 11-of-13 from the foul line.

The largest lead for either team in the second half was five, held by the Spiders after Butler drained a three for a 56-51 cushion with 11:42 to play.
