Greeley, CO (Sports Network) - Chris Kaba scored a career-high 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds as he led the Northern Colorado Bears to a 64-61 win over the Portland State Vikings in a Big Sky Conference bout at Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.

Also hitting for double digits as the Bears (22-6, 11-4 BSC) defeated Portland State (10-17, 5-9) for the first time ever, was Taylor Montgomery with 11 points, adding six rebounds off the bench as well.

The Vikings, who had won all 11 of the previous meetings dating back to the 1974-75 campaign, were led by Dominic Waters who tallied a game-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. Julius Thomas and Jamie Jones both added 11 points and combined for 14 rebounds in the setback.

UNC scored the first points of the night and never looked back, holding the visitors to just nine total field goals in the first half, en route to a 33-18 lead at the break.

In the second half PSU responded with 57.7 percent shooting from the field, but it was too little, too late as the Bears came away with the three-point decision.

The Vikings hurt themselves with just 6-of-12 shooting at the free-throw line.
