Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Donald Sims poured in 25 points to lift the Appalachian State Mountaineers over the Elon Phoenix, 58-54, in a Southern Conference tilt.

Josh Hunter and Isaac Butts both netted 10 points for Appalachian State (18-11, 11-5 SoCon), and Butts also ripped down 11 rebounds.

Adam Constantine scored 13 points in the disappointing setback for Elon (8-20, 5-11), which received 12 points from TJ Douglas.

Elon led 29-24 at intermission after limiting Appalachian State to 34.8 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

Over the final 20 minutes. the Phoenix were just 8-of-21 from the field, including 1-of-9 from three-point range, and the team even missed half of its 16 free throw attempts. The Mountaineers also struggled in the second half at the offensive end, but they did just enough to earn their seventh true road win of the season.

Appalachian State finished the game with a 46-29 rebounding advantage, including 15-6 on the offensive boards.
