Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Dairese Gary scored 23 points and 10th- ranked New Mexico held off Colorado State, 72-66, for its 12th straight win.

Roman Martinez added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Lobos (26-3, 12-2 MWC), who also received 15 points and 10 boards from Darington Hobson. Phillip McDonald had 10 points.

After starting the MWC season at 0-2, New Mexico has reeled off a school- record 12 straight conference wins. The previous record was 10 in a row set by the 1977-78 Western Athletic Conference Lobos. The 12-game victory run by UNM ties the MWC record set by Utah in 2004-05.

New Mexico is a game ahead of BYU in the conference standings. The Cougars host San Diego State Wednesday.

Adam Nigon scored 23 for the Rams (15-12, 6-7), who have lost three in a row. They've also dropped 10 straight to ranked teams. Andy Ogide had 12 points, while Dorian Green chipped in 11 points and six assists.

Nigon's three-pointer with 22.4 seconds left had the Rams within 69-66, but Gary nailed a pair of free throws.

After Green missed a jumper at the other end, Martinez sank one free throw to seal the win.

It was tight throughout most of the first half with the Rams holding a 32-29 edge at the break. Both teams were woeful shooting in the final 20 minutes with New Mexico going 10-of-30 and Colorado state 10-of-28. The difference was an 18-of-23 performance at the charity stripe by the Lobos in the second half.

New Mexico scored the first nine points of the second half, capped by a Gary three-point play.

Ogide's dunk gave the Rams a 49-47 edge, but the host team gave up back-to- back three-balls from Hobson and Martinez. It remained close until the end.
