NCAA Game Summary - Tennessee at Florida

Final Score: Tennessee 62 - Florida 75

Gainesville, FL (Sports Network) - Chandler Parsons and Erving Walker finished with 19 points apiece, as Florida dealt 19th-ranked Tennessee a 75-62 defeat in an SEC clash from the O'Connell Center.

Vernon Macklin had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Gators (20-8, 9-4 SEC), whose only loss in the last eight games was a 61-60 setback to these Volunteers last month in Knoxville.

The win significantly improved Florida's "bubble" standing for the NCAA Tournament and moved it ahead of the Vols by a game in the SEC East.

Scotty Hopson hit four three-pointers en route to 20 points and Cameron Tatum connected on three long distance makes to end with 13 points. Bobby Maze chipped in 11 and five assists for Tennessee (20-7, 8-5), which came in with wins in its last two games and five of the last six overall.

The Volunteers attempted five less free throws (6-of-11) than the Gators made (16-of-24).

Tennessee hit six of its 10 three-pointers in the first half, and three consecutive in the early going erased a 13-6 deficit for a two-point edge less than six minutes in.

Things remained close for most of the period as Macklin slammed for two near the midway point to draw the Gators within 24-21 and Parsons dropped in a layup for the same margin with less than seven minutes to go.

Melvin Goins' deuce with close to 3 1/2 minutes left was good for a seven- point TU lead, but Florida closed on a 7-0 stretch to tie things at 37.

The Vols were nursing a one-point lead when Florida ripped off nine straight points to gain a 52-44 advantage on Macklin's layup with 11 minutes to play.

Hopson ended a more than five minute scoring drought with a trey near the nine-minute mark, but it mainly served to break apart what morphed into a 21-4 run for Florida.

Walker ended the stretch with consecutive three-pointers for a 64-48 Gators lead with less than five minutes to go, and added another about a minute later to run the difference to 17.

Parsons then drained one from beyond the arc off a Kenny Boynton theft of Maze for a 20-point game, and Florida played out the final three minutes with relative ease.
