Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - Jarvis Varnado became the NCAA's all-time leader in blocked shots as he powered the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 74-66 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in a Southeastern Conference affair.

Varnado finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks for Mississippi State (20-8, 8-5 SEC). The big man now has 536 career rejections, one more than Wojciech Mydra, the former record holder. Dee Bost pitched in 22 points for the Bulldogs.

Mikhail Torrance posted 23 points in defeat for Alabama (14-13, 4-9). Senario Hillman had 13 points, and JaMychal Green pitched in 12 points for the Crimson Tide.

Mississippi State led 31-29 at intermission despite shooting 35.5 percent from the floor in the first half.

Over the final 20 minutes, the Bulldogs made good on 60 percent of their field goal attempts, enabling them to pull away.

Ravern Johnson scored 12 points for MSU, which got 11 points from Kodi Augustus.
