Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Steve McNees netted 15 points and the Akron Zips defeated the Buffalo Bulls, 77-67, in a Mid-American Conference tussle at Rhodes Arena.
Brett McKnight scored 14 points for Akron (21-8, 11-3 MAC), while Chris McKnight added 12. Jimmy Conyers recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Nikola Cvetinovic also scored 11.
Rodney Pierce scored a game-high 19 points in the loss for Buffalo (16-10, 8-6), while Calvin Betts added 15 points and 14 boards. Sean Smiley and Max Boudreau also provided solid efforts, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Zips took a healthy 39-23 advantage into the intermission after holding Buffalo to a miserable 28.1 percent shooting from the floor in the opening stanza.
Akron was able to connect on 54.2 percent of its second-half field goals en route to the 10-point triumph.
The Zips didn't help themselves much from the free-throw line in the first half, connecting on just 8-of-14 attempts. However, they were able to help stave off the Bulls by improving to 12-of-15 from the charity stripe in the final half.
