Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Chris Lutz scored 20 points to lead the Marshall Thundering Herd to a 77-54 trouncing of the Rice Owls in a Conference USA clash at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Hassan Whiteside finished with a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds in the win for Marshall (21-7, 9-4 C-USA), while Dago Pena added 11 points and seven boards.

Lawrence Ghoram scored 16 points to lead the way for Rice (8-19, 1-12), while Lucas Kuipers tallied 14 points to go with eight boards. Connor Frizzelle chipped in 11 points off the bench.

The Owls were held to a paltry 25.0 percent shooting from the floor during the opening stanza, allowing Marshall to take a 32-21 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Thundering Herd buried 51.6 percent of its chances from the field, breezing to the 23-point win.

The Thundering Herd controlled the glass during the contest, outrebounding Rice by a 48-35 margin.
