Brock Young scored 14 points to lead the way for East Carolina (9-18, 3-10), while Jamar Abrams chipped in 10 points while grabbing six boards in the losing effort.

East Carolina was held to a mere 32.0 percent shooting from the floor during the opening frame, enabling SMU to take a 26-20 lead into the break.

The Mustangs then connected on 47.6 percent of their attempts from the field during the second stanza to earn the five-point win.
