Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Brandon Giles scored 19 points to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts to a 61-44 win over the Samford Bulldogs in a Southern Conference scrap.

Keaton Cole added 11 for the Catamounts (20-10, 10-7 SoCon). Richie Gordon provided 10 points and five rebounds, while Brigham Waginger added five assists.

Josh Davis's 13 points topped the Bulldogs (11-18, 5-12), while Trey Montgomery finished with 10 points and five assists.

Western Carolina led 21-12 with 7:29 left in the first half but the Bulldogs closed with a 14-5 spurt to force a 26-26 halftime tie.

There were two lead changes early in the second half before Western Carolina took control and stretched its lead to 12 points at 47-35 with 6:51 remaining in the contest. The Catamounts shot an even 50.0 percent from the floor after halftime.

Western Carolina shot 48.9 percent from the floor for the game. Samford was just 5-of-22 from long range.
