Bridgeport, CT (Sports Network) - Anthony Johnson tallied a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds and the Fairfield Stags topped the Iona Gaels, 71-54, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Derek Needham added 15 points for Fairfield (19-9, 12-5 MAAC), which took over sole possession of second place.

Kyle Smith scored 12 points in the loss for Iona (20-9, 11-6), while Alejo Rodriguez tore down 10 rebounds.

The Gaels shot a miserable 28.0 percent from the floor in the opening half, as they went into the locker room down 34-18 at the break.

The Stags put the game away behind 51.9 percent shooting from the field in the second stanza for the 17-point triumph.

Fairfield took advantage of the Gaels' mistakes on the night, scoring 22 points off of 15 Iona turnovers.
