Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Brett McKnight scored 15 points to lead the Akron Zips to a 74-68 win over the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid-American Conference showdown at Anderson Arena.

Jimmy Conyers added 12 points for the Zips (22-8, 12-3 MAC).

Otis Polk led the way for the Falcons (14-14, 6-9), scoring 17 points, while Scott Thomas chipped in with 16 points and eight rebounds. Dee Brown and Erik Marschall also got involved, netting 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Akron got off to a fast start, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, to take a 40-27 lead at the break.

The Zips put the game away in the second stanza, knocking down 8-of-10 free- throw attempts, en route to a six-point victory.

The Akron bench was the difference maker in this game, outscoring the Bowling Green reserves 37-7 in the win.
