Final Score: Minnesota 62 - Illinois 60
Champaign, IL (Sports Network) - Devoe Joseph scored a game-high 16 points to help lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 62-60 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini in a Big Ten Conference outing at Assembly Hall.
Also scoring in double figures for the Gophers (17-11, 8-8 Big Ten) were Lawrence Westbrook and Paul Carter with 10 points apiece as the team won for the third time in the last four outings.
Illinois (18-11, 10-6) was paced by Bill Cole who delivered 15 points on 5- of-9 shooting behind the three-point line before fouling out, while Mike Davis registered 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. D.J. Richardson accounted for 10 points and Demetri McCamey nine points and a game-high 10 assists before he picked up his fifth personal.
The Illini led by a basket early in the meeting, but the squad converted a total of just seven field goals in the frame and missed on all 11 three-point tries, en route to a 24-14 deficit at the break.
In the second half Illinois tried to fight back from the perimeter, but even 9-of-25 beyond the arc was not enough in what turned into the two-point loss for the home team.
In addition locking down the Illini on the outside, Minnesota also outscored them at the free-throw line, 16-5.
