El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Jeremy Williams posted a game-high 20 points to lead the Texas-El Paso Miners to a 78-64 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference USA tilt at the Don Haskins Center.

Randy Culpepper added 18 points in the win for UTEP (22-5, 13-1 C-USA).

Arsalan Kazemi scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the way for Rice (8-20, 1-13), while Lawrence Ghoram tallied 11 points. Suleiman Braimoh and Chris Eversley got into the mix as well, finishing with 10 points apiece in the losing effort.

The Miners shot at a blistering 58.6 percent pace from the field during the opening frame to take a 45-34 lead into the break.

The Owls were then held to just 44.4 percent from the floor during the second stanza, as UTEP rolled to a 14-point win.

The Miners converted 55.8 percent of their attempts from the field to help the squad overcome 21 giveaways.
