NCAA Game Summary - Texas at Texas A&M

Final Score: Texas 58 - Texas A&M 74

College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Donald Sloan had 19 points as 22nd- ranked Texas A&M took down No. 21 Texas, 74-58, in the Lone Star State Showdown.

David Loubeau added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Ray Turner had nine points off the bench for the Aggies (20-8, 9-5 Big 12), who have won six of their last eight.

"We are a pretty tough group, and we know it," said Sloan. "We did everything we needed to do to win today. Getting 20 wins is good, especially with the schedule we have had. It was tough seeing those guys go down. I have known both of them for a while, and I just wanted them to be ok. We have a lot of season left, and we just need to take care of business."

Damion James had 12 points and Jordan Hamilton added 10 points for the Longhorns (22-7, 8-6), who had won three of four coming in.

"I'm disappointed, I am embarrassed to be honest," said Texas head coach Rick Barnes. "Playing with three freshmen makes it tough at times, especially on defense. We don't have choice but to play the freshmen. Even our older guys need to step up. We are better than we are playing. I have been saying that for a while, but time is running out."

A scary moment occurred late in the game as Aggies guard B.J. Holmes and Texas guard J'Covan Brown collided in the lane. Brown went down hard, hitting his head on the court and laid on the floor and was eventually carried off the court on a stretcher. Holmes was carried off the court by a pair of teammates with a sprained right foot.

Brown was taken off the court and was fully conscious. He was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and it was reported that he had a neck injury.

It took a little bit for the offenses to get going in the game, but six straight points from Turner gave the Aggies a 13-7 lead with just under nine minutes to play in the first half.

Another six straight points later in the half extended the Aggies' lead to 13 points, but the Longhorns answered with seven straight points and trailed 31-23 at the break.

Texas A&M slowly built its lead through the first several minutes of the second half, and an 8-0 run capped on a Turner free throw with just over 10 minutes to play made it a 52-36 game.

The Longhorns responded a bit later with an 8-0 run and cut their deficit to 53-46 on a Brown tip-in, but the Aggies answered with five points and Sloan's two from the line made it a 58-46 game with just over seven minutes to play.

Texas didn't quit and got to within 10 points, 60-50, on a James slam with 5 1/2 minutes to play, but Loubeau followed with two from the line and a tip-in. Sloan's layup made it a 66-50 game with 3 1/2 minutes to play.

The deficit proved too much for the Longhorns as the team trailed by double- digits for the remainder of the game.
