NCAA Game Summary - Vanderbilt at Arkansas

Final Score: Vanderbilt 89 - Arkansas 72

Fayetteville, AR (Sports Network) - Jeffery Taylor scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds to help 16th-ranked Vanderbilt beat Arkansas, 89-72, at Bud Walton Arena.

A.J. Ogilvy had 14 points and six boards for the Commodores (22-6, 11-3 SEC), who pulled to within a game of Kentucky in the race for the conference title.

Brad Tinsley contributed 13 points with six rebounds and four assists for Vanderbilt, which had lost six straight in Fayetteville.

"Offensively I thought we seemed very in sync," Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said. "We were able to get some baskets inside early. That kind of opened things from the perimeter."

Arkansas forward Marshawn Powell poured in 27 points, but only six came in the second half. Rotnei Clarke logged 14 points, while Michael Washington added 11 and 13 rebounds for the Razorbacks (14-15, 7-7), who have dropped four of their last five games.

The Razorbacks trailed throughout the contest.

"We're going to have to play better," Arkansas coach John Pelphrey said. "I think the biggest thing is defensively we're not where we were a week or so ago. We weren't able to get as many stops and get in transition."

Vanderbilt opened up an 18-8 lead on a Steve Tchiengang layup, and Ogilvy completed a three-point play at the foul line to stretch the advantage to 29-16.

A dunk by Powell drew Arkansas to within eight, but Taylor made two free throws to give the Commodores a 45-35 halftime lead.

Vanderbilt went up 64-44 on a Jermaine Beal jumper less than nine minutes into the second half. The visitors led by as many as 27 down the stretch.
