Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Gerald Lee scored 21 points, as the Old Dominion Monarchs nipped the Virginia Commonwealth Rams, 73-70, to capture the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title.

Lee made good on 9-of-14 field goals and grabbed five caroms, as ODU (23-8, 15-3 CAA) stretched their home winning streak to 23 games. Frank Hassell posted 17 points and six boards, while Darius James chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

Bradford Burgess netted 13 points for VCU (20-8, 11-7), which had its three- game win streak snapped, and Jamie Skeen contributed 10 points.

ODU scored the last five points of the first half and held VCU without a point over the final 2:40, as it took a 39-35 lead to the intermission.

In the second half, the Monarchs shot a scorching 60.9 percent from the floor and survived a game-tying three-point attempt from VCU's Brandon Rozzell in the closing moments of the victory.

The Monarchs controlled the boards, 34-22, including a 14-8 edge on the offensive glass.
