NCAA Game Summary - Louisville at Connecticut

Final Score: Louisville 78 - Connecticut 76

Storrs, CT (Sports Network) - Edgar Sosa converted a reverse layup with 8.2 seconds to play to give the Louisville Cardinals a thrilling 78-76 win over the Connecticut Huskies in a Big East Conference showdown at Gampel Pavilion.

Leading four players in double figures for the Cardinals (19-10, 10-6 Big East) was Samardo Samuels with 14 points, followed by Jerry Smith and Preston Knowles who each had 12 and Kyle Kuric with 10 points as Louisville swept the season series from the Huskies (17-12, 7-9) and has now won six of the last eight games overall.

Kemba Walker led the way for UConn with his game-high 28 points, Gavin Edwards contributed 17 and 13 rebounds, followed by Stanley Robinson with 14 points and 13 boards of his own. Jerome Dyson chipped in 13 points in the team's final home game of the campaign.

UConn opened the meeting on a 5-0 run and was up by nine at 11-2, but the Cardinals closed the gap by shooting 6-of-13 behind the three-point line and trailed by just five points at the break, 45-40.

Louisville opened the second half on a 15-5 run and later was ahead 68-61 after a pair of made free throws by Samuels at the 7:50 mark. Down by seven, UConn put together a 10-0 run to surge ahead by three at 71-68.

A three-pointer by Walker with 1:41 remaining put the Huskies ahead by a count of 76-75, but moments later Samuels knocked down the second of two free throws to lock the score up for the fifth time on the afternoon.

After Sosa's layup, Walker raced the length of the floor and threw up a wild layup attempt that was blocked by Samuels to preserve the win for the visitors and bolster their NCAA Tournament resume.

UConn held a commanding 50-22 rebounding average, registering 22 at the offensive end of the floor alone, but the Huskies hurt themselves with 22 turnovers on the day. With their three-game win streak snapped, the Huskies now hit the road with dates against Notre Dame and South Florida to close out the regular season this week.
