Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Lazar Hayward scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Marquette Golden Eagles shaded the Seton Hall Pirates, 84-83, in a Big East Conference bout at the Prudential Center.

David Cubillan and Darius Johnson-Odom each scored 16 points for Marquette (19-9, 10-6 Big East) which has won eight of its last nine and remains in the hunt for a fourth seed and a double-bye in the Big East Conference tournament. Also scoring in double figures for the squad were Jimmy Butler and Maurice Acker with 13 and 12 points, respectively, with each handing out four assists along the way as well.

Jeff Robinson scored a career-high 25 points for Seton Hall (16-11, 7-9) which had won four of five coming into the weekend. Jeremy Hazell finished with 19 points, Jordan Theodore 18, while Eugene Harvey added 13 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.

Marquette led 34-26 at halftime, in part due to going 6-of-11 from three-point range in the first half. The Golden Eagles led by as many as 10 in the opening 20 minutes.

The Pirates rallied in the second half to force a 69-69 tie at the end of regulation. Harvey hit two foul shots for the home team with 29 seconds left to force overtime. Hayward missed a three-point try for Marquette as time expired.

Marquette led by as many as seven in the extra period and never trailed. Hazell, who scored all his points after halftime, missed a potential game- tying three-pointer for Seton Hall with two seconds remaining before Herb Pope scored on a putback to make it a one-point game at the finish.

It was Marquette's third consecutive overtime win, one short of an NCAA record for consecutive overtime contests. The Golden Eagles beat Cincinnati on the road last Sunday and won at St. John's on Wednesday.
