Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Juan Fernandez hit 7-of-11 three-point tries on his way to 23 points, as 20th-ranked Temple used an early second-half surge to down La Salle, 65-53, in a Big 5 clash at Gola Arena.

Lavoy Allen went for 17 points and a game-high 21 rebounds for the Owls (24-5, 12-2 A-10), who tied for the lead in the conference with Xavier, which topped Richmond in double overtime earlier Sunday. Micheal Eric added 10 points.

Rodney Green scored 21 points and dished out six assists for the Explorers (11-17, 3-11), who have dropped eight consecutive games. Jerrell Williams added 17 and five rebounds while Aaric Murray had 10 in defeat.

Down by one at the break, Temple assumed control of the contest with an 18-0 run to start the second half.

Eric hit a layup and Fernandez drilled a pair of threes to start the burst. Allen's dunk made it 42-33, then Fernandez dropped in two more from long distance before Allen capped the surge with a bucket for a 50-33 game less than six minutes in.

Green's easy deuce brought La Salle back within 50-43 with 11:10 to play, but an 11-4 Owls run from there sealed the outcome. Brooks drained a trey to get the roll started and Allen finished it with a lay-in for a 61-47 game. The Explorers' deficit never dipped below 10 the rest of the way.

Temple began the game with nine of the first 11 points, and extended the lead to 16-8 on an Eric bucket, but La Salle charged back to take a 24-22 edge on a trey from Williams.

Both sides wrestled with the lead until Williams' layup gave the Explorers a 33-32 margin at the half.
