Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Jalin Thomas hit one-of-two free throws with 44 seconds remaining in regulation to lead the Central Michigan Chippewas to a 56-55 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a Mid-American Conference showdown at the Convocation Center.
Jordan Bitzer led the way for the Chippewas (15-14, 9-7 MAC), tallying 18 points and seven rebounds, while Robbie Harman chipped in with 14 points and eight assists.
EMU (16-14, 8-8) was paced by Carlos Medlock, who scored a game-high 27 points in a losing effort. Justin Dobbins also got involved, netting 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds for the Eagles.
Despite shooting just 35.3 percent from the floor in the first half, the Chippewas went into the break with a 30-26 lead.
In the second stanza Central Michigan shot 50.0 percent from the floor and also made 5-of-12 three-point attempts, en route to the one-point win.
Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as CMU outscored the Eagles 30-15 from long distance.
With the win CMU clinched its second consecutive MAC Western Division title and a ticket to the quarterfinals in next week's conference tournament.
