St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Josh Young drilled a baseline jumper with 1.5 seconds remaining to lead the eighth-seeded Drake Bulldogs to a 63-61 win over the ninth-seeded Southern Illinois Salukis in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at the Scottrade Center.

Ryan Wedel led the way for the Bulldogs (14-18), scoring a game-high 19 points, while Young chipped in with 14 points in the win. Adam Templeton and Craig Stanley also got involved, tallying 11 points apiece.

SIU (15-15) was paced by Carlton Fay, who scored 14 points in a losing effort. John Freeman also added 12 points off the bench, while Gene Teague checked in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

SIU got off to a fast start, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor in the first half, to take a 27-25 lead at the break.

Drake battled back in the second stanza, knocking down 7-of-15 three-point attempts, en route to a two-point victory.

With the victory Drake will move on to face top-seeded Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals on Friday.
