Greenville, SC (Sports Network) - R.L. Horton sunk 14 points, as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles defeated the East Carolina Pirates, 75-65, in a Conference USA battle at Minges Coliseum.

Angelo Johnson and Gary Flowers both notched 13 points in the win for Southern Miss (18-12, 8-8 CUSA). Sai'Quon Stone scored 12 points, while Torye Pelham added 10.

Brock Young led the way for East Carolina (10-20, 4-12) with 15 points in the loss. Darrius Morrow netted 13 points, while DaQuan Joyner added 10.

The Pirates took a 33-32 lead into the intermission despite Southern Miss connecting on 59.1 percent of its field goals in the opening half.

The Golden Eagles were able to hold East Carolina to just 34.8 percent shooting from the floor in the second stanza en route to the 10-point victory.

Southern Miss converted 22-of-26 free-throw attempts on the night, including 18-of-22 in the second half.
