Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - David Kool led all scorers with 26 points, as Western Michigan held on for a 69-60 win over Central Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Flenard Whitfield added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for Western Michigan (18-14), which earned a 75-73 victory over Bowling Green in the first round on Sunday. The Broncos, who will play Akron in the semifinals on Friday, have won five of their last seven games overall. David Brown and Donald Lawson ended with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

WMU, which improved to 79-45 over Central Michigan in the all-time series, won this tournament just once, back in 2004.

Robbie Harman made four three-pointers and ended with a team-best 20 points for Central Michigan (15-15), which downed Western Michigan on February 27. Jordan Bitzer finished with 15 points and Amir Rashid donated 14 points off the bench.

Central Michigan led 31-22 at the break and extended its advantage to 14, 47-33 after Rashid made a layup with 13:42 to play.

Then with the Chippewas up 54-49 with 6:27 left, a 15-4 run gave WMU the lead and essentially put the game away. Mike Douglas got the spurt started with a trey and Kool finished it off with a pair from the free-throw line, making it a 64-58 game with 1:09 to play.

Tied at 17 with 7:16 left in the opening half, Harman hit back-to-back three- pointers as part of a 10-0 run to give Central Michigan a 27-17 lead with 3:57 remaining. The Chippewas settled for a 31-22 advantage heading into the locker room.
