Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Matt Howard scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Butler Bulldogs to a hard-fought, 65-63 victory, narrowly fending off the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in a Horizon League showdown at the Gentile Center.

Zach Hahn also scored 15 points in the win for Butler (4-2, 1-0 HL).

Loyola-Chicago (7-1, 0-1) was led by Geoff McCammon's 14 points off of the bench in the loss, while Andy Polka and Jordan Hicks both contributed double- digit performances, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Butler took a healthy 38-28 advantage into the intermission after shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in the opening half.

The Bulldogs were only able to convert on 32.0 percent of their field goals in the second stanza, but they made key shots when they needed them to fend off the second-half comeback attempt of the Ramblers.

Butler took advantage of Loyola-Chicago's miscues, scoring 15 points off of the Ramblers' 11 turnovers on the night.
