West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Robbie Hummel scored 29 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Purdue rode a strong first half, on the way to an 83-65 win over Nebraska.
D.J. Byrd, who was suspended for Sunday's loss against Michigan State due to his arrest for public intoxication, went 5-of-8 from three-point range and scored 15 in his return for the Boilermakers. Lewis Jackson netted 13 points, Ryne Smith 12 and Terone Johnson 11 for Purdue (18-10, 8-7 Big Ten), which has won three of its last four games.
Hummel finished 4-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Bo Spencer had 19 points for the Cornhuskers (12-14, 4-11), who lost for the fifth time in six contests.
Hummel's jumper capped eight straight points for Purdue, which raced to a 25-12 lead midway through the first half. Byrd's three with nearly a minute left provided a 47-30 halftime lead.
The Boilermakers went 19-of-30 from the field over the opening 20 minutes, and led by double digits the rest of the contest, finishing the game at 54.5 percent from the floor.
The Cornhuskers also shot well, ending at 51.9 percent. They were outrebounded, 30-22 and went just 3-of-3 at the foul line, compared to 10-of-15 for Purdue.
