Sky GM and head coach Overton resigns

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Chicago Sky general manager and head coach Bo Overton has resigned, the club announced Thursday.

Steven Key, formerly a Sky assistant coach, has been named Overton's replacement. Key will take on both head coaching and general manager duties.

Overton's resignation comes as a bit of a shock. He led Chicago to a 14-20 record in 2007, his first season with the club. The Sky stumbled to a 5-29 mark in 2006, the team's inaugural campaign, under then-head coach and GM Dave Cowens, who stepped down after the season.

Prior to coming to Chicago, Overton was the head women's basketball coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Key, 39, has been with the Sky since its inaugural season in 2006. Before coming to Chicago, Key was head coach for the Dusseldorf Magics, a professional men's team in Germany, for three years.

"It has been a privilege to be involved with the Sky from [the] beginning and I am excited to continue our building process," said Key. "The team made enormous strides in our second season and I have great respect for our athletes. They work hard both on the basketball court and in the community."

A point guard during his days at Boston University, Key played professionally in Europe for 10 years before becoming a coach.

"Steve has played a key role in helping to build and shape the Chicago Sky since day one," said Sky CEO Margaret Stender. "He shares our values, work ethic and desire to improve and grow. He has my complete confidence as the Sky's new GM and head coach."
