Mon 10th, March 2008

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Connecticut remained the top team in the latest Associated Press women's college basketball poll.

The Huskies are atop the rankings for the fourth straight week and for the 11th time in the last 12 weeks. Only a one-week stint by Tennessee interrupted the streak.

UConn received 49 first-place votes, nine more than last week, and a total of 1,249 points from a nationwide media panel after a great week. The Huskies downing then-No. 4 Rutgers last Monday to win the Big East regular-season title, before advancing to the conference tournament semifinals with a victory over DePaul on Sunday.

North Carolina, the ACC Tournament champion, remained No. 2 and received the only other first-place vote, while SEC Tournament champion Tennessee stayed at No. 3. Stanford moved up two spots to fourth and Maryland remained fifth.

LSU moved up one spot to sixth after its runner-up finish in the SEC and Rutgers dropped three places to seventh after also losing to Louisville in the Big East quarterfinals. California, Baylor and Duke round out the top 10.

The second 10 consists of Texas A&M, Utah, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Kansas State, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, George Washington and Vanderbilt.

The Aggies made the biggest move of the week, jumping from No. 17 to 11, after disposing of Oklahoma. Notre Dame had the biggest drop, falling eight spots to No. 17 after falling to St. John's and Pitt.

The last five teams ranked this week are Marist, UTEP, Louisville, Virginia and Ohio State.

Louisville was the only new arrival to the poll, replacing Georgia.
