Alexander retains welterweight belts against Kotelnik

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Devon Alexander won a unanimous decision over Andriy Kotelnik Saturday night at the Scottrade Center to defend his WBC and IBF welterweight belts.

Alexander (21-0-0, 13 KOs) had to battle the Ukranian Kotelnik for a full 12 twelve rounds in front of a hometown crowd, as the St. Louis native prevailed in a tactical battle 116-112 on all three judges' score cards.

It was Alexander's second successful dual-title defense having defeated Juan Urango via a technical knockout back in March at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.

Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13 KOs) landed some serious blows Saturday, but not enough in falling via a unanimous decision for the second straight bout. He lost his WBA super lightweight belt last July to Amir Khan, a title he had held since defeating Gavin Rees in March of 2008.
