Huck downs Godfrey by TKO for WBO cruiserweight belt

Erfurt, Germany (Sports Network) - Marco Huck's fifth-round knockout of challenger Matt Godfrey called an end to the fight, allowing him to retain the WBO cruiserweight title at Messehalle.

Huck (30-1, 23 KO) pummeled his opponent throughout, first knocking him to the canvas near the end of the second round. A low blow from the champ felled Godfrey (20-2, 10 KO) in the third, then in the fifth Huck drilled his foe repeatedly -- even sending him through the ropes on the second knockdown.

Referee Geno Rodriguez was finally compelled to end the bout at 2:18 of the fifth round.
