Garcia TKOs Khan in title unification bout

Sat 14th, July 2012

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Danny Garcia scored a fourth-round technical knockout of Amir Khan in a light welterweight title unification bout Saturday night.

Garcia (24-0, 15 KOs), who sustained a cut above his right eye in the second round before flooring Khan three times, kept his WBC title and took the WBA belt from Khan (26-3, 18 KOs).

Referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight with 32 seconds left in the fourth round, even after Khan shook his head signaling he was okay to continue.

The Philadelphia native sent Khan to the canvas with a stunning left hook to the right ear in the final minute of the third. Khan barely got out of that round and was knocked down in the opening seconds of the fourth when a left hook clipped him on the top of the head.

Khan landed a solid uppercut to the chin with about two minutes left in the round, but was the recipient of a solid right from Garcia. Khan stumbled and touched his glove to the canvas, signaling another knockdown.

A native of Great Britain, the 25-year-old Khan appeared in his eighth title fight. Garcia was coming off a 12-round unanimous decision over Erik Morales in March.
