Grey Cup rematch kicks off CFL 2010

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Canadian Football League has unveiled its schedule for the 2010 season and will open the campaign with a rematch of last year's Grey Cup between Montreal and Saskatchewan.

Montreal beat Saskatchewan, 28-27, last November to win the title. The Roughriders will try to gain a measure of revenge when they host the Alouettes in the new season opener on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day.

Toronto will visit Calgary in the nightcap of the Canada Day doubleheader to start the season. Winnipeg will then host Hamilton on Friday, July 2 before the opening weekend concludes on Sunday, July 4 with British Columbia visiting Edmonton.

"All of the elements are in place for a tremendous 2010 season: competitive teams, great players and, of course, tremendous fans," said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon in a statement. "We start 2010 with significant momentum because of our fans. We're coming off a 2009 season that featured a record television audience for one of the most remarkable Grey Cups in history, dramatically higher ratings for the CFL on TSN throughout 2009, and the eighth straight season we reached a total attendance mark of more than two million fans."

Another highlight of this year's schedule includes the first regular-season CFL game played in Atlantic Canada, as Edmonton meets Toronto in Moncton on September 26.

Labour Day weekend in September includes the traditional rivalry games on the holiday with Hamilton hosting Toronto and Edmonton visiting Calgary. Also that weekend, BC visits Montreal and Saskatchewan hosts Winnipeg.

The playoffs open on Sunday, November 14 with division semifinals, followed by the division finals on November 21.

Edmonton is the site for the 98th Grey Cup on Sunday, November 28.
