Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - The NCAA Division II committee on infractions has handed down its punishment to the University of Central Oklahoma football team on Wednesday for a variety of infractions.
The penalties stem from the school's inability to monitor the activities of its former football head coach, as well as its own conduct from January 2003 until August 2006.
The violations themselves revolve around the provision of housing, meals, transportation and use of university facilities to six transfer student- athletes the football staff recruited from 2003 to 2005. Each of the recruits were found to have used these perks before being enrolled at Central Oklahoma.
Among the restrictions placed on the program are placing the college itself on three years probation; reducing football scholarships by two for this school year and four for the following two academic years; ineligibility for the team to appear on any broadcast for longer than five minutes for the next two academic years.
