Whitewater's Beaver wins Gagliardi Trophy

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior running back Justin Beaver was selected as the winner of the Gagliardi Trophy, presented annually to the top player in Division III football.

Beaver averaged 164 yards rushing during the regular season and his total of 1,640 yards was the third-highest in Division III this year. He surpassed the school and conference career rushing record by 1,000 yards.

Beaver's Warhawks will play for the Division III national championship this Saturday against Mount Union in Salem, Virginia.

The Gagliardi Trophy recognizes the outstanding Division III football student athlete who best exemplifies performance on the field, in the classroom and in his community. The trophy is named in honor of John Gagliardi, Saint John's (MN) head football coach since 1953 and the coach with the most wins in college football history with 453 victories.
