College Football - All Star Game- Mississippi Junior College

Northeast Mississippi College District will host the yearly Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges and Community (MACJC) All Star Football Classic on Saturday, December 5th.

66 of the best football players from the Magnolia State will showcase as thel North squad battles the South. The MACJC All Star Game South Roster has 36 players for the all star event that is set for kickoff at 1 pm at Keenum Stadium in Booneville. Recently rosters were announced with the Northeast placing 5 sophomores on their 33 man squad.

Demarcus Underwood (Tuscumbia, AL), Jermaine Johnson (Thomasville), Jeremy Cannon (New Albany, GA), Dominique King (Tuscumbia, AL), and Jarryn Bingham (Jackson) all got selections to all star event. Underwood the MACJC All Region and All State XXIII selection for the Tigers, will help clear the way for the 1st 1,000-yard rusher since 1991 with his 6'6, 320 pound frame. Mortar, an all state choice for the Northeast, ran for 1004 yards this season to lead his team in virtually every rushing category. Mortar led the team in yards (1,004), rushes (187), and yards per game (111.56) as well as rushing touchdowns with 5 to become the 1st Northeast running back to run for more than 1000 yards since Ricky Andrews in 1991.

Johnson teamed along with Bingham on defense. The 220 pound linebacker from Thomasville, Georgia and Johnson combined for 65 stops this season for the Tigers. Johnson had 45 solo tackles and 20 assists to go with 4.5 sacks this season.

Bingham 6'0, 225 pound linebacker from Jackson, had 30 tackles on the season for the Tigers. Bingham had 20 solo tackles as well as 2.5 sacks for the year.

King, 5'9, 170 pound wide receiver, did a whole lot for Tigers on offense, leading the offense in scoring with 6 touchdowns, 38 receptions and 534 receiving yards.

Hinds and Coahoma community colleges led with 8 players on their relevant 33 man roster as south members Jones County, Pearl River and Copiah-Lincoln joined Holmes with 6 each. Itawamba, East Central, Northwest and Northeast placed 5 players on the all star rosters, Mississippi Delta with four and Southwest placed two players to round out the 66 man rosters.

Missing from the event this year will be MACJC state champion and runner-up. East Mississippi thumped inedible Mississippi Gulf Coast 75-71 in a shootout in Scooba on November 8th and both schools have established a bowl game bid.

Mississippi Gulf Coast will play Navarro Texas at CHAMPS Heart of the Texas Bowl on the same day as the MACJC All Star event at Copperas Cove, Texas. East Mississippi plays Arizona Western in the 2nd annual Mississippi Bowl in Biloxi on Sunday, December 6th.

Last year, the South team defeated the North 16-14 but the North leads the all time series 17-16-2.
