Recruiting: Soma Vainuku sets an official visit to USC

From Eureka, Soma Vainuku planned to take an official visit to Oregon State this weekend, but after he received a visit from USC assistant, Rocky Seto, he changed his plans. Now, Vainuku is planning to visit USC.

Mrs. Vainuku said, "It made a big difference when Rocky Seto came here. When Seto came here last week, it was good since USC was Soma's first choice. Soma changed his mind and he is about to visit USC this weekend. I had words with Seto yesterday; he told me that USC has offered Soma a scholarship."

Similar to others who had high interest or committed to the Trojans, Vainuku was shocked by the news of Pete Carroll leaving USC for the NFL.

Mrs. Vainuku added, "We were all shocked and even Soma said that he was not going to USC," after hearing the reports that Pete Carroll left USC. "He did not want to go to USC with Pete gone." Many things have changed during this short period of time during the recruitment of Vainuku and he has an opportunity to live out a lifelong dream.

His mother said, "Soma likes the school and our entire family likes the school. Before Rey Maualuga left for USC, Soma was a little boy, he dreamed about going to USC. Soma talked with his family his teacher about dreaming and wanting to go there."

Vainuku is a 6'1, 255 pound fullback and linebacker for Eureka High and has not determined which side of the ball he will play on if he chooses USC.

Mrs. Vainuku said, "Seto was talking to Soma about playing on both sides of field. He might play linebacker and fullback. Seto confirmed that whatever position he chooses does not matter. Where ever they place him, he just wants to succeed and win a championship."
