South Carolina feeling good after practice

The Gamecocks finished up practice on Friday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium as they near the last week of spring practice.

In Columbia on a burning day, the team went out for a usual practice, concluding with a skirmish and goal line match between the defense and offense. The quarterbacks had a good day with Stephen Garcia showing off his arm on a pair of long passes, one caught by wide receiver D.L. Moore. The Head Coach was happy with his signal callers with only 8 days left until the spring game.

"All of the quarterbacks did some excellent things, and some things they didn't recognize what was going on," said Spurrier. "They have a lot of knowledge, especially Shaw. That is why we workout and practice. I hope that one day those players will be ready to play. (Stephen) Garcia had an fair practice and workout today."

After a tie in the goal line match during practice on Wednesday, the offense came out energized on Friday, winning the match with 3 scores to only 1 stop.

"We had a good practice and workout today," said Spurrier. "The offense had some movement and emotion. Many defensive players were held out. No one got injured. The offense really won the ten yard line battle today, (3-1), so it was a good workout."

With spring-practice ending soon, Spurrier looked at the last 12 practice sessions, which have taken place so far, and said that he is satisfied with the growth of his team. However, he gave warning that they still had to work hard to get better, and a big practice schedule had to be completed for the summer to get his team ready for an exhausting schedule this fall.

"I believe we are better than before," said Spurrier. "I feel even the players that are injured have been capable of watching and going to gatherings and all that, which they wanted to do. Connor Shaw is here now. Looks like all the time we put Zac (Brindise) in this season has done something great. I hope that our players will have a powerful summer. Summer is more important than spring as it has 3 months and this is only fifteen practice sessions. Therefore, if they are able to come here and get the comfort level that we expect they will get, our offense could be a lot better this year. Our quarterback has to prove that he is a committed player to the team or We expect Zac Brindise or Connor or Shaw, one will step forward and lead the offense."

After Dion Lecorn got his leg broken on the last play of the spring game last year, Spurrier is limiting the match to about two and half quarters.
