Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves avoided arbitration with utilityman Omar Infante, signing him to a two-year contract on Monday.
The deal is worth $4.3 million, which includes an option for the 2011 season. The 27-year-old is slated to make $1.85 million for the upcoming season and $2.225 million in 2010.
Infante was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in December, 2007, and hit .293 with three homers, 40 RBI and 24 doubles in 96 games for the Braves last season. He started 77 games in 2008, at five different positions in the infield and outfield.
Over seven pro seasons with the Tigers and Braves, Infante is a career .260 hitter with 35 home runs, 194 RBI and 105 two-base hits.
With the signing, Atlanta has five remaining arbitration-eligible players: Jeff Francoeur, Mike Gonzalez, Kelly Johnson, Matt Diaz and Casey Kotchman.
