New York, NY (Sports Network) - Orlando's Dwight Howard and Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending January 11.
Howard led the Magic to a 4-0 week, tallying double-doubles in wins over Washington, San Antonio and Atlanta twice. The current leader in All-Star balloting, Howard's 13.8 rebounds per game and 3.3 blocks per game both pace the league. The 23-year-old is seeking to become just the fourth player in NBA history to lead the league in both categories.
Bryant helped the Lakers to a 3-1 week, with wins over Golden State, Indiana and Miami. Bryant, who notched a pair of 30-plus point games over the week, leads the Western Conference in scoring at 28.8 points per game. The Lakers, at 30-6, own the NBA's best record.
Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Cleveland's LeBron James, Houston's Von Wafer, Miami's Dwyane Wade, New Jersey's Vince Carter, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala and Andre Miller, Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge and Utah's Paul Millsap.
