LSU and Oregon to play at Cowboy Stadium next year

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - LSU announced on Tuesday that its football team will square off against Oregon in the "Cowboys Classic" at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The game is slated for September 3, 2011, and will pit these schools against each other for the first time since 1977.

"This will be a great opportunity to showcase our football program on national television against a quality opponent from the Pac-10," said LSU director of athletics Joe Alleva. "Cowboy Stadium is perhaps the finest football venue in the country and to be able to bring our team and our fans to that facility will be a tremendous experience for everyone involved."

It will mark the first time since a 2002 Cotton Bowl loss to the Texas Longhorns that the Tigers will play a game in the Lone Star state. This will also be the second straight season that LSU has begun a season at a neutral site, after a 30-24 win over North Carolina last Saturday in Atlanta.

LSU has won two of the three meetings with Oregon. The Ducks took a 12-0 decision in 1932 at Baton Rouge, while the Tigers won by a point in 1934 at home and by a 56-17 count in the previous meeting.
