Wisconsin's Watt wins Lott Trophy

Newport Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt was named the winner of the Lott Trophy, given to the top defensive impact player in college football.

The Lott Trophy considers both on-field and off-field performance and is named after the legendary defensive back Ronnie Lott.

Watt has seven sacks, 21 tackles for loss with an interception and three forced fumbles for the Big Ten champion Badgers. He has also started his own charity foundation, the Justin J. Watt Foundation, to benefit local elementary and middle schools that lack funding.

The other finalists for the award were LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, Oregon linebacker Casey Matthews and Texas defensive lineman Sam Acho.
