GAME NOTES: The Duke Blue Devils storm into Chestnut Hill this weekend for an Atlantic Coast Conference clash with the Boston College Eagles, as both teams continue to search for their first win of the season.

Duke has dropped its first two games against FCS foe Richmond and nationally- ranked Stanford. The Andrew Luck-led Cardinal came into Durham last weekend and upended the Blue Devils 44-14 in a game that was close up until the second quarter. Duke is now 0-2 for the first time in three seasons. The Blue Devils will meet Tulane at home and travel to FIU in the two weeks following this weekend's matchup with Boston College.

Boston College couldn't overcome self-inflicted mistakes in the opener against Northwestern, and tried to avoid being the first BCS conference school to lose at UCF last week. It didn't go the Eagles way. UCF blasted Boston College on both sides of the ball, especially in the second half en route to a 30-3 win. Boston College is 2-4 in ACC openers, and this marks the first time the Eagles will meet the Blue Devils in the conference opener.

Boston College leads the series 4-1 over Duke, including last year's 21-16 victory in Durham.

While Duke has been outscored 67-35 by opponents in the first two games, the Blue Devils' passing game has produced more yardage than its counterparts, averaging 253 yards per game passing under starter Sean Renfree. Although Renfree has yet to pass for a touchdown, he hasn't thrown any picks. Connor Vernon is Renfree's top threat, catching 14 balls for 176 yards through two games, and Juwan Thompson has led the rushing attack with 129 yards rushing on 24 attempts. The Blue Devils must do a better job on third down (10-of-30) and shore up the pass protection, with the line allowing seven sacks in two losses.

Duke hung with Stanford in the second quarter after Luck was picked off by Lee Butler, who returned it 76 yards for a touchdown. That marked the 10th defensive touchdown for Duke in the four years under head coach David Cutcliffe. However, Stanford overwhelmed the unit with 504 yards of total offense, and Duke is allowing 33.5 points per game in its two losses. Duke is allowing nearly five yards per rush as well, which is a cause for concern heading into this weekend's matchup with the run-first Eagles.

The Eagles were stagnant on offense in the loss to the Knights last weekend, being outgained 422-141 in total yardage and converting just 1-of-12 on third down. ACC Preseason Player of the Year Montel Harris remains sidelined with a knee injury, and senior wide receiver Ifeanyi Momah is out for the year, tearing his ACL in the opener after catching eight balls for 171 yards against Northwestern. Quarterback Chase Rettig has completed 34-of-67 passes for 421 yards through two games, and his touchdown to interception ratio has been disappointing (0-3). Andre Williams has led the offense in the absence of Harris, rushing for 173 yards and two touchdowns in both losses.

UCF gashed the Eagles for 235 yards rushing on 45 carries, marking the second consecutive week that Boston College gave up over 200 yards on the ground. That is uncharacteristic for a team that led the nation in rush defense in 2010. Boston College is surrendering 4.7 yards per carry and has allowed six rushing touchdowns in two games. The unit wore down in the fourth quarter against the Knights, allowing three touchdowns in the final stanza to lose grasp on a game that was otherwise close through the first three quarters. Middle linebacker Luke Kuechly, who was a First-Team All-American in 2010, currently leads the nation in tackles with 35 through two contests.

While its a surprise that these two teams are 0-4 combined, Boston College has the talent to turn around its season, especially on defense. The offense has been bitten by the injury bug early, but must get more production out of Rettig. While Duke's offense is an improving unit, expect the Boston College defense to turn around its woes against the run this week, which should be enough alone to get the Eagles their first win of the season.
