GAME NOTES: Still searching for their first win, the Miami-Ohio RedHawks will take the field this Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium when the Army Black Knights roll into town.

Army opened the year with two straight losses to Northern Illinois and San Diego State, but since then the team has claimed two wins in three matchups. The two victories came at home as the Black Knights slipped by Northwestern and more recently, knocked off Tulane.

As for the defending Mid-American Conference champs, they have yet to taste victory in 2011. However, three of the four matchups have come against teams from a BCS conference. Miami opened the year with road losses to Missouri and Minnesota, but then the team returned home and opened conference play with a loss to Bowling Green. That was followed by a 27-0 setback to Cincinnati at Yager Stadium this past weekend.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools, and the first since 1998. Miami-Ohio tied the series at two in the last showdown, defeating the Black Knights, 14-13.

There is no secret to Army's game plan. The Black Knights are going to run and run often. Through five games the offense has scored 19 touchdowns, 17 of which have come via the run.

The Black Knights are one of the top ground teams in the nation and come into this matchup averaging 368.4 yards per matchup (second nationally). Quarterback Trent Steelman is currently leading the charge with 437 yards and nine touchdowns, while Raymond Maples has racked up 423 yards and three scores.

Army had no trouble finding running room in its win over Tulane, as the Black Knights rumbled for 353 yards and five touchdowns. Maples led the way with 141 yards and one touchdown, while Steelman added 54 yards and two more scores. On top of that, Steelman connected on all three of his passes for 70 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively the Black Knights were just as tough, holding the Green Wave to just 199 total yards. Army also forced four turnovers in the win and surrendered just 10 first downs. It was clearly the best performance on the year by the defense, which has struggled at times.

Even though the Black Knights shut down Tulane's ground game, that has been an area of concern for this defense, allowing 167.4 ypg on 5.0 yards per carry thus far.

Steve Erzinger leads the way defensively, already racking up 56 tackles and two sacks on the year.

Miami will struggle to exploit Army's defensive weakness, as the RedHawks enter this weekend averaging just 49.0 rushing yards per matchup.

The passing attack has been just as bad, as Zac Dysert has just two touchdowns on the year against five interceptions. Dysert had to carry the offensive load once again in the team's recent matchup against Cincinnati, but just like the previous contests the quarterback fell short. Dysert completed just 19-of-33 passes and finished with 252 yards. Dysert also tossed an interception and was sacked four times.

The reason the offense rested on his shoulders is because the ground game was atrocious, as the RedHawks finished with -3 yards on 38 carries.

Although the RedHawks are allowing 27.5 ppg, the defense has played well considering the competition. This unit has done well against the pass, allowing just six touchdowns, while posting four interceptions.

That was not the case this past weekend, as Cincinnati torched the RedHawks for 251 yards and one score. Making matters worse was Miami's inability to stop the run, which has been a problem through four games. Miami, which is surrendering 168.0 ypg, was gashed for 147 yards and two more touchdowns.

Eventually Miami will win, but this Saturday will not be the day. The RedHawks have been unable to stop the run and that is the one area Army excels at.
