GAME NOTES: Head coach Mark Hudspeth's Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns look to build on a six-game winning streak and their Sun Belt Conference lead when they travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky to take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers this weekend.

Hudspeth has guided Louisiana to its best start since 1976 when the school started off 8-0 in his first year as the Ragin' Cajuns' coach. The current six-game winning streak has not been accomplished since Jake Delhomme's freshman year in 1993. The streak consists of wins over Kent State, Nicholls State, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Troy, and North Texas. The only loss of the year for Louisiana came at the hands of powerhouse Oklahoma State.

Western Kentucky is looking for its third straight win this weekend after losing its first four games. The Hilltoppers won road games at Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic in their previous two contests. A Western Kentucky win would make the Hilltoppers 3-1 in the conference and more importantly hand Louisiana its first Sun Belt loss, in addition to ending the nation's longest home losing streak at 18 games.

This will be the fifth game of the series, as Louisiana holds the advantage 3-1. Western Kentucky comfortably won its first game of the series in 2010 as the Hilltoppers outscored Louisiana 54-21. Kawaun Jakes was most impressive in the contest completing 18-of-22 passes for 262 yards.

Louisiana has had great success offensively as its 32.4 point per game average leads the Sun Belt. Blaine Gautier leads the conference in passing efficiency and is coming off a solid showing against North Texas in which he threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns. Gautier's performance came a week after he left the game with an injury against Troy. The Ragin' Cajuns ended up beating Troy despite losing Gautier. The team got exceptional play from backup quarterback Chris Masson, who went on to win the Sun Belt Conference's offensive player of the week award for his relief work.

Alonzo Harris is Louisiana's lead running back. Harris has scored a touchdown in three straight games and is first on the team with 367 rushing yards on the season. Javone Lawson leads the team with 27 receptions for 452 yards and four touchdowns. Harry Peoples has also been a threat this year as the junior receiver tied the school record for receptions with 12 in the 37-34 win over Florida Atlantic.

The Ragin' Cajun defense has been up and down this season. Since being blasted for 61 points by Oklahoma State, the team has given up an average of 20.8 points per game. For the second time in a row and fourth time this year, Louisiana held its opponent under 100 rushing yards as North Texas managed 88 yards on 38 carries. Lance Kelley is the leading tackler and ranks second in the conference with 59 tackles.

Kelley will have his hands full this week as he tries to stop the Sun Belt's leading rusher Bobby Rainey. The senior running back ranks 12th in the nation in rushing yards and has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in all but one game this year. Rainey is coming off of a 131-yard, two-touchdown performance against Florida Atlantic.

Jakes's 290 yards of total offense against Louisiana in 2010 has not been matched in the 11 games since. Western Kentucky has a run heavy attack but has seen better output from Jakes recently. In the Hilltoppers victories, Jakes has completed 25 of 49 passes for 307 yards. He did not throw an interception in either contest after throwing at least one pick in his first four games. Jakes's most targeted teammate has been tight end Jack Doyle. The junior tight end leads the team with 23 receptions for 263 yards.

Western Kentucky hopes to continue its defensive success after shutting out Florida Atlantic 20-0 last week. The Owls' 121 yards of total offense was the lowest output by a Hilltoppers' opponent this year. Florida Atlantic's rushing attack was shut down, as it managed just 25 yards on 25 carries. Before last week, the Hilltopper defense had allowed an average of 468 yards in its previous four games. Sophomore linebacker Andrew Jackson has been leading the defense so far this season. Jackson's 63 tackles leads the conference and ranks 14th in nation. His 11 tackles for loss also lead the conference and is fifth in the nation.

The result of this game is going to be looked at by every coach in the conference. While Louisiana has had early success this season, the Florida Atlantic game showed that it will not be a cake walk through the conference. Western Kentucky has a lot of momentum and would love nothing more than to claim part of the conference lead in front of a homecoming crowd. The battle between offensive stars Bobby Rainey and Blaine Gautier is going to be exciting. Louisiana has not been slowed down yet, but Western Kentucky has enough to match them and steal a win.
